Blaise booked D Money a gig at an open mic in Hollywood- Crane’s Hollywood tavern. Psyched to offer our energy to the LA community, everyone put on their finest treds and got pumped for the show. The night kicked off with Dez and Blaise asking me to fire massage them while they made love. My perverted side thought this would be a beautiful piece of performance art, and thus suggested that we do this at the bar party. Blaise suprisngly had doubts about his public sexual performance, but I was sure that this would be the perfect night.
As we arrived at the bar, Nicole and her father showed up, drinking whiskey and ready to party. Nicole had been flirting with Asa the time we saw her before, actually the spark that ignited our official ‘relationship’; her being there gave me some trepidations that I chose to allivieate through dance and independence from the group. I was psyched to perform indoors with my fire fingers and torches, in an awesome costume I put together earlier that day, so in general was feeling good.
My power center had gone for a whirl; I had been experiencing a major lack of appreciation from D Money and a lot of attraction from other performers and musicians. While the folky music was fun to dance and play around with, my heart and soul were twisted up in Blaise’s more seductive music. As I performed with D Money, Denny shouts out “MADAMN BURNZ!” recognition of my blazing flame dance.
Ahhh. Content.
I had set up a fire massage alter in the back of the bar, attracting individuals from the crowded bar by breathing giant balls of fire to illuminate my beautiful set up. There wasn’t much space so I laid a scarf on the ground next to Asa’s tarot station and made the decision to do massages on receivers who’d be standing up. My first customer was Sarah’s friend, Pirate Scotty. As he removed his shirt the singing bowl beamed around his 3rd chakra, muted in all others. Perfect. Standing room to spread his powerful energy to ground and meditate. As I worked the flames around his body, spiraling upwards and downwards like a spinning top of eyes connecting with the world, his head began to gleam and legs to root. Fire lines ewnegetically encircled vissudha and Pele spoke upwards in a passionate wave. As he opened his eyes, a Namaste thanks was sufficient for the healing.
I only had a chance to do 4 massages that night.
The 4th changed the face of the fire massage from an erotic massage to a shamanistic journey. Nicole’s father, who’d been watching my indoor fire performances and mumbling a lot of spanglish to me along the lines of him really liking what I do, came to the alter with pain in his neck. I will later write a whole section on how physical pain fire massages differ from energetic healing, but are very intertwined… either way, I started the process with a gentle neck massage and then moved to the singing bowl to tune the pain spots in the body with other stronger centers. The bowl was ringing loudly around his upper chakras, so I noted the strong sense of focus within him.
As I brought the fire in hammer like strikes towards his upper body, a strong vibration rang around his cerebrum. Lifting the torch to crown his mind and enlightened the load bearing pain on his neck, I felt a lightness begin to lift from his back. As Pele feasted on air, the flame grew. As the fire got stronger and stronger and the connection between our meditative centers grew, the man went into a trance. Eyes closed, I worked the flames towards his feet to ground this ethereal sensation. As I began to stand upwards to verbal extinguish the tower of fire, the man fell to his knees and smacked his head on the brick terrace encircling my station.
Whoa. I had sent a man into a trance and possibly knocked him out. I was scared.
He stood up and assured me he was alright. In shock, he handed me some money and put his arm around me. I moved over to Asa and shared the experience with him. Expecting a note of ‘be careful’ he was beaming with the power the massage held.
Afterwards we went back to Yvonne’s home and shared some drinks, Nicole’s father sat close to me and told me how not only did his neck feel better, but he felt a lot more clear headed. And so did I. The massages were going to be used for healing and birthing ideas, developing insights through flame.
Much to come.

Defining Firerotic
Venice Beach, CA, August 16th, 2009
Firerotic Massage took on a new meaning upon meeting Desiree Barnes and Blaise Smith. A short lived sexy couple I met on my travels through LA last summer, the 2 fell in hedonist love with my flame techniques. Watching me eat fire, they both immediately asked for fire massages. Those 2 are sexual beings, love the carnality, love sexy and want it in their lives in major ways. As they came over to Sarah’s house early one morning with a bottle of wine, they jumped into the pool nude. I had been hungover and awake for hours, trying to wake up my boyfriend, Asa, for morning sex. As he told me to relax and sleep, I was psyched to be awoken to their skinny dip drunk adventure in the pool. As Asa awoke and Dez shared her morning in bed, I felt necessarily frustrated. When she asked me for a massage, I was jazzed to set up the station next to the collection of beautiful naked bodies I called my circus.
Whoa. Dez immediately started to moan as the fire moved faster and faster around her 2nd chakra. On moments of slow pause she relax, but as soon as Pele’s energy kissed her body, she exuded sexual excitement. ‘ I orgasmed better than I’ve EVER gotten off!” she told the people at the beach later on that day. As women began to come to me to ignite their sexual centers, I focused the fire on the 2nd chakra in sharp swooping strokes, circular churns of the root chakra, and calming flames near the upper meditative vortexes. Yep. It worked. Fire induced orgasms.
While Blaises reaction was very similar to Dez’s, I learned that the massage could strength the sexual center in a variety of different energy strokes, the main one being a hammer like direct line to the 2nd chakra. I also learned that my sexual energy could be expressed through fire, and used as a mechanism to heal. Reflecting on my earlier anger at my partner’s refusal to intertwine physically, I learned that there are many ways for lovers to connect, and in some cases, aggressive intercourse doesn’t serve that purpose; sometimes dreamy sleeps alongside the body brings the same connection.
However, I did learn that that sexual release needs to happen on some level in some way, and it doesn’t have to be sex.

Why Fire?
August 2009
People fear fire. They think they’re going to get burned. They think fire is destructive.
For a while, fire was destructive to me. I used my fiery presence to rage dance floors as a means of blowing off steam, never really stopping to slow down and meditate on the actual issues in my life. They were so simple to make disappear; find some awesome music, get the fire torches, dance wildly, and light em up and enchant the audience when the moment strikes. At the same time, my partner was a phoenix; she let herself crumble to ashes and then ignited the birth of some meridian of ideas in a passionate flame. While slash and burn farming is a great technique for growing new crops on fertile land, the constant necessity to ‘burn up’ every situation didn’t work wonders for peaceful meditation and creation. While we gave birth to lustrous performances, we faulted in our inabilities to just chill out and relax.
My fiery nature of the previous school year led to a fall off a trapeze during an energetic night. May 22, 2009 at 4am I fell from a single knee hang off the trapeze at the House of Yes onto a wooden stage and broke the t11-t12 bones and joint in my spine. I was up on my feet and eating fire in 6 days due to my positive determination (and 12 daily vitamins and minerals!) to get back to life; and ready for my summer on the road. Either way, I knew I had to slow down. While many people faulted me for spending too much time in the air, or not being careful, I knew my fall was based on an accidental misplacement of my knee on the bar and not on my safety; it was a symbol though- that the fire that sat inside of me was boiling too hot. While the opposition to the point is never truthfully the answer, I searched for something new to ‘quit it.’
The Fire Massage arose out of my desire to show the world that they shouldn’t fear passion. Passion is the bliss of life; without strong convictions and excitement, you can walk through life without experiencing JOY. Indifference and calm convictions, while they reflect balance, they also lack energy. Who wants to be with someone who isn’t psyched about what they’re doing? Who’d buy art from an artist who lacks passion? Music from a bland musician? Watch performance of an emotionally void entertainer?
Symbolizing passion by fire torches, I found the easiest way I could help people add passion and energy to their lives was through bringing an intense, pure symbol of it within margins of their bodies. Building an alter with power objects and welcoming colors made this experience attractive to the random onlooker on the streets. While not everyone needs passion in their lives (some have an abundance), the diversity of fire as a healing source came clear. It can be a focal point for meditation in a strong way; it can be a bright light to follow, a cleanse to the mind, and a relaxation source. It can help balance abundance and dilapidated energies through its strong vibration and presence in the world.
Fire can bring strength, but too much strength can lead to overpowering, controlling, and aggression. I believe my back break was a symbol for me to balance my fire nature with my earthy Taurean roots. It came to me a tool to relate to the world with in a restorative way. It made my direction as a mind-body worker clear. It gave me a means to channel my aggressive sexual energy (to be blogged about). It came to me to give to you.

The Birth of the Fire Massage
Long time over due...As the post dates do not link to my journey as a fire healer, I am psyched to post my continual diary of my child, the fire massage, its insights, and developments:
July 2009: Gathering of the Vibes Festival
After spending a week living in an auto body shop in Hagerstown, Maryland with the Magic Beans, seeds were planted for new developments in my future. I had just left my fire performance partner, phoenix, with whom I’d wowed souls for the previous year in and around New York City. Creative differences and incompatible life paths made my decision to work as an individual fire artist proved to be the correct choice when the idea of a Firerotic Massage station was given birth upon the recent reconstructing of my gig schedule for the summer.
As I was trying to figure out what to offer the Gathering of the Vibes festival in an interactive way, I reviewed the contents of my trunk of possessions: a mound of clothing, a barrel of yoga/massage props, numerous fire torches, and my Nepalese musical instruments. Debating the outcomes of a fakir (Indian body burning ritual ceremonial practice) circle & Tribal Yoga Dance class, the idea of a continuous, interactive installment came to mind – I wanted to be a part of D Money and Magic Beans Tarot but offer my own service. Though I continued on later in the summer to mainly add fire performances to the mix, I knew I wanted more than a show- I wanted connections.
The sound and fire healing came together as soon as we set up our camp outside the main stage the 2nd day of the vibes. With my singing bowl, rhythm massage bangers, body roller, soy massage candle & crystals in one bag, and fire eater torches and fuel in the other, I placed Emily Scofeld’s dumpster baby good luck charms on my black tapestry. Firerotic Massage read my black and red fiery painted sign. Sound Massage read the Magic Beans Menu, alongside tarot readings, art, & exorcisms. With 20,000 people at the festival, excitement and passion ran high. Seeing Asa’s magical art alongside the sound of D Money’s folk songs sat Madamn Burnz, the fire healer. My sign drew immediate interest and confusion to my ‘illumination station’- as signs later that summer advertised the massage as only Fire Massage, I later determined it was the word Firerotic drawing attention; or sometimes my subtle fire eating performances. Either way, my first customer was in for an experience that I repeated on nearly 100 people those first 2 days of the fire massage.
People were drunk enough to question only what was necessary to overcoming their trepidations about letting a warrior goddess breather fire onto their bodies from mere centimeters.
‘Are you going to burn me?’
‘So what exactly are you doing here?’
‘Yeah, I want one of those!’
I had a couple of long talks with men who wanted to treat a friend of a Firerotic massage by Madamn Burnz. Others were men who wanted to prove their adventurous attitude to their girlfriends. Some receivers of the gong healing were attracted my singing bowl and came over to my station. I believe the energy of my healthy yoga teachings melded with my sensual fiery self to draw in the right people that helped develop the flow of the fire massage. First, attunement to the receiver through playing the singing bowl. Next, fire reiki to connect our energy centers. Application of soy massage oil to relax the skin. Rhythm massage for grounding the soul traveling on its journey through the fire massage. Roll the body down with the roller. Repeat.
As more people came to watch, the art of the fire in the massage grew to include drama. As the energy of more receivers was disseminated onto me, Pele took awareness of my fiery antics and began to guide the flames into healing symbols apparent to me as various shapes that were making even more clear the chakratic balances of my receivers. The mercaba and caduceus were the 2 major shapes that made the intentions of the fire massage clear; strength and higher energy consciousness. The way the singing bowl sang differently at various chakra points highlighted the areas of challenge for the general public to me.
‘ I want one!’
The fire massage was on its way to success.

Opening Portals
"You're not gonna burn me, are you? I'm DEATHLY afraid of getting burned!"
I'm a burn artist. I get that comment all the time.
People expect that if you bring fire close to them that immediately entails burn. I'm not sure if its fear they're expressing, or curiosity as to how fire can touch their body and not burn.
Eitherway, massaging at the Avant Garden was even more beautiful than imagined. I set up a massage table I borrowed from Brooklyn Sanctuary down on the lower level of Galapagos, towards the back of the room, but totally visible. I had about 10 eager and willing customers, each so beuatiful and recipetive in their own ways. Some of the highlights from the night included a dark skinned man of whom took fire in the shape of a Mercaba and an 8 pointed star, so deeply. Another stayed on the table for 10 minutes after the massage.
The most impactful was the Indian man who feared the burn. I kept the fire at bay for the fire torch, but when I granted him Fakir towards the upper left shoulder, he took it and said it stung a little...but was fine.
After the massage, the man (whose name...??) no longer feared getting burned.
There was beautiful Josephine who so deeply enjoyed the session and hopes to greet me again in San Francisco this weekend. Ahhh, and Dennis, my lovely stage director concert going hippi friend from college, whose a hairy Italian man, engulfed the flames like a dragon eating his breath. Matt, a friend within the community.
So beautiful.
The night culminated with the union with a new friend and a reciprocal peaceful experience of which I later documented through poetry.

FIRE MASSAGE BY MADAMN BURNZ:
Sent as a messenger from Pele, Burnz created the Fire Massage to empower beings to experience fire & dance as spiritual healing. As an interactive art installation, a fire massage heals, enlivens, and empowers individually & collectively. Using the Tibetan singing bowl as a tuning instrument into the receiver's chakra system, these energetic vortexes provide a map for flames to heal and strengthened the mind and body. Crystals are used to remove toxins within the confines of the relaxing massage atmosphere. A visually artistic display, come visit the alter to observe and partcipate.
