Earlier this week a licensed massage therapist contacted me to do a trade; he was interested in receiving a fire massage and he wanted to offer me a massage in return.
Since he had responded to my post looking for a potential investor, I agreed; I also agreed because my back has been experiencing intense waves of pain! Now, as a yoga teacher, I know the only way to truly alleviate pain is to get rid of it yourself; for me, one of my most empowering experiences was my self-healing of my broken spine. (Another story for another blog post); however, I remember my physical therapist telling me that the most important thing for my spine to recieve during its healing process was deep tactile stimulation...which only another can provide --( comment up for debate as per account of yanuma rolling balls and perhaps a bed of nails;0))..so, because of these 2 reasons, I conceded to have this guy do an exchange with me.
He seemed quite eager to receive a massage, as he called me numerous times, continually sent me emails with varied availabilities, and followed up on his inquiry. On tuesday pm, he called and asked if we could do the massage that evening. On account of Asa's birthday of which I was hoping to celebrate, I refused the offer. I also refused the offer because it was an evening call- now although I know this exchange was purely a trade of 2 body workers, i still am hesitant to invite clients into my space at dark hours...maybe its my own sexual vibe that drives in the perverts but a lady has to be careful.
So we arranged for him to come on thursday am, and he did, at 945am (about 3 hours before my usual afternoon wake up...im up all night usually!) I noticed immediately that his ability to communicate with me was off, as we were unable to decide who was going to 'receive' first. I thought it quite odd that it ended up being him, as I obviously had just woken up, hadn't moved, and was quite groggy.
The fire massage is a delicate task that requires the right environment and the right state of mind. This guy was preoccupied with his head positioning and body temperature. As soon as I began to play the singing bowl to his very very tense body, the bowl refused resonance above the 3rd chakra. Oddly, it wasn't really resonating anywhere; it sang a deep, quiet tone, mapping his chakras as ultimately closed and not receiving. Since he came to me for an energy treatment, and was a massage therapist himself, I leaned towards the more energetic aspect of the massage, eager to bring strength to his chakra system as a whole.
I noticed a particular blockage at vissudha, the 5th chakra, to the point where intution and meditation were completely blocked off. I thus focused the massage on opening the throat and unblocking the sushumna and nadi (channels allowing for the kundalini flow), going through 11 torches total. The crystals were placed mainly above the 3rd chakra, through I wished I had a long line of amethyst to lie on his back and remove all the toxins. I remained silent during the healing, though I wish I had provided him with more verbal guidance - just like how Kiana guided me through my healing with her last year when my spine broke.
Afterwards, I asked him how he felt and he responded with 'fine' 'cold' 'the sensation of the fire felt good' ' i was expecting nothing so thus i cant say anything outstanding.' he told me that he wanted to recieve first so he could massage me like how i massaged him..while i tried to explain that I provided a healing service and he provided a biological service and there was really no way the 2 would coincide, his communication center was so blocked that these words sounded deeply foreign.
So foreign that his entire massage consisted of assisted strechting and stop mid back, thus giving me a lingering upper back pain for the rest of the day. Despite my precise needs, he seemed unable to focus his attention enough to purely work on the spot I required.
Afterwards, I realized that these clients, the ones whose chakras swirl so silently they seem inert, are the ones who need my services the most. He was my first totally blocked reciever, and thus have greater insight on how to reach creatures as such- through verbal guidance, more 'hands on fire', and deeper descriptions of each piece.
So the massage exchange proved to be educational and inspirational, strengthening both of our communication centers. Whatta beaut.
